Comments Welcomed on Deepwater Horizon Open Ocean Draft Restoration Plan

The Deepwater Horizon Open Ocean Trustee Implementation Group has released the Draft Restoration Plan 2 and Environmental Assessment for public comment through July 1, 2019.

The draft restoration plan focuses on wide-ranging and migratory oceanic species within the Open Ocean Restoration Area, and proposes 18 projects for the following four Restoration Types:

  • Fish and Water Column Invertebrates.
  • Sea Turtles.
  • Marine Mammals.
  • Mesophotic and Deep Benthic Communities.

The total estimated cost for the 18 preferred alternatives is $225,680,700.

The 45-day public review and comment period for the draft restoration plan is May 15 through July 1, 2019. Public comments can be submitted online and through the mail, and at an in-person public meeting June 4 in Pensacola, Florida and two public webinars on June 11 and 13.
